Dihamri Marine Reserve

Dihamri Marine Reserve, meaning "Two Rocks" in the local Socotri language, is a protected ecological area on the northeastern coast of Socotra. This UNESCO World Heritage site is widely considered the premier destination on the island for snorkeling and scuba diving due to its incredibly rich and pristine coral reef ecosystem. The reserve protects one of the most bio-diverse underwater environments. Snorkelers and divers frequently encounter parrot-fish, moray eels, sea turtles, octopuses, rays, and giant blue clams. The reef sits very close to the shore, making it easily accessible for beginners. It features a spectacular array of hard and soft corals. For certified scuba divers, Dihamri also offers the deepest dive site on the island, reaching depths of up to 50 meters.

Above the water, Dihamri is instantly recognizable by its two massive, blood-red volcanic rock formations. The beach itself is striking; instead of fine sand, the shoreline is predominantly covered in layers of naturally broken, colorful coral fragments mixed with orange-flecked white sands, its like you have landed on Mars.

You can rent snorkeling gear directly on the beach from local vendors, scuba diving trips and gear can also be arranged here in advance. Because it is a highly protected ecological zone, visitors are strictly advised to adhere to "no-touch, no-take" principles while in the water and to use reef safe sunscreen to help preserve the fragile coral ecosystem.
