Degub Cave
Dogub Cave is located on the southern coast of Socotra, nestled into the cliffs that border the Nogid (Nuged) plain. It is often described as one of the most accessible and "user-friendly" caves on the island, offering a dramatic contrast to the strenuous mountain hikes required for other sites. For those interested in the graphic and architectural forms of Socotra, Dogub Cave is a masterclass in scale, the cave entrance is a massive, yawning limestone grotto, this creates a framed view of the blue Indian Ocean and the white Nogid plains from the dark interior. The ceiling is adorned with heavy, twisted limestone formations. These "hanging pillars" create a sharp, jagged silhouette against the light of the entrance. In the arid, harsh environment of the southern coast, Dogub Cave serves as a vital natural shelter, one of the cave's most valuable features is a small, natural freshwater basin fed by water trickling through the limestone ceiling, which creates a natural fresh water reservoir for the birds.
